As reiterated by the outgoing Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission head Hagrup Haukland, the waters around the entire island are controlled by the Sri Lanka Navy. The Sea Tigers have no right to the sea. According to internationally accepted standards, can’t have another naval force at sea. Given this statement, the LTTE’s Eelam is a land-locked dreamland with access only through GOSL territory. In essence, they would require valid travel documents, to pay duty and taxes when they transit through GOSL territory.
The same international territorial laws apply to the air space and the LTTE’s land-locked Eelam is pretty much boxed in. Surely, is this the make-up of the Eelam that Tamils so desperately seek having sacrificed their lives and funds?
Someone clearly lied to them and it is about time they started asking dispassionate questions like - Is this land really worth the sacrifices we have been asked to make for eternity?
